Sodexo Leads Dow Jones Sustainability Index for 11 straight years
September 29, 2015
Sodexo, world leader in Quality of Life Services, is once again the top rated company in its sector on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) giving the Group 11 consecutive years of recognition in sustainability, and the number one consumer services company for the second year in a row.
DJSI is the longest-running global sustainability benchmark worldwide and the key reference point in sustainability investing for investors and companies alike. The annual DJSI review is based on a thorough analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, climate strategy, environmental policy/management systems, supply chain standards and labor practices.
DJSI noted that Sodexo, while already the leader, had shown significant increases, particularly in the areas of corporate citizenship and philanthropy and for its environmental efforts. Last year, for example, the company released an ambitious, industry-leading effort that will engage its suppliers, clients and customers (in addition to its own operations) to reduce carbon emissions 34% by 2020.
In addition DJSI also highlighted Sodexo’s exemplary supply chain management and excellent labor indicators:
- 97% of new employees are hired from the local community,
- Women form 43% of middle management and 38% of the Board of Directors;
With more than 75 million people relying on the company for their nutritional needs, it is noteworthy that the company has committed to promoting health and wellness solutions in all of the 80 countries in which it operates.
Sodexo has been a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World and DJSI Europe (formerly STOXX) since 2005.
